The best experience of this writer's life. As other reviewers have made mention, the faculty at this program is outstanding. If I tried to tell you how outstanding, I wouldn't be able to. Suffice it to say that when I left the program I counted the teachers as mentors and friends both. And, at the risk of sounding cheesy (you'd have to cut this in workshop), the program is a family. Seriously. I made wonderful friends with people I now count closest to me (even that weird guy Caldes). And while Cruces is small (although not to a girl from Kansas), and flat (again, see Kansas), it's majestic and regal and if you're not inspired to writing by it,then you shouldn't be in a writing program. I've met numerous people from other programs, and I was always shocked to hear how much they disliked many of the people in their school, how they waited for workshops just to "get even" with them. If you come to NMSU, I can guarantee you this won't happen. You might sorta kinda be annoyed by someone the way that you're annoyed by your Uncle Leonard, but you'll still love them because in this case, even Uncle Stuffy...um, I mean Leonard, has something to say that's worth listening to, despite the fact that he's wearing beer-soaked women's underwear over his jeans. This is a community of supporting, intelligent people, and if you make your way into it, it will change you for life.
