Review Title:

Desert mountains, hot chile, good place to buckle down.

Full Review of the Program:

This program is a great opportunity to write hard for three years, and to teach a reasonable load in a supportive environment. Highlights include the reading series, chance to participate in producing a literary journal, after-class camaraderie, and devoted faculty. This is not a theory-heavy, academia-centric environment. The emphasis is on craft. Las Cruces/Mesilla is a quiet community with a still regionalized culture.

Advice to Prospective Students:

Visit. Make sure you (and anyone you bring with you) can handle three years in a small community -- more to the point, if you decide to do so, devote yourself to the task and enjoy the unique offerings of the place. Work hard, but be bold enough to write what you want to write.
