Review Title:

An amazing growth experience both personally and professionally

Full Review of the Program:

I had an amazingly wonderful experience in my Mills MFA- english/Creative Writing degree program. There's no doubt in my mind that my work at Mills got me where I am today: teaching at a community college, writing a novel, published writings, a CD as a performing songwriter, and personally very happy!

The design of the program balances the academic work of literature reading/review and the learning of the craft of writing through great workshops and "craft of..." classes. Professors at Mills are brilliant and dynamic and 100% committed to the experience of all their students. The campus itself is a great place to spend time, and situated in a community that invites exploration around issues of identity, difference, and culture. The quality of my fellow students was incredible, and to this day I stay connected with them and their work, and feel supported through those connections in my own work.

Advice to Prospective Students:

Be sure to follow up with financial aid options. As a private school, Mills is not cheap: but there are financial aid options available in terms of scholarships and fellowships, so do your homework ahead of time and get help with costs.
