An exemplary low-residency MFA program for those hungry to learn and grow.
Full Review of the Program:
I'm pursuing a combined MFA in Poetry and Poetry in Translation, which I highly recommend for poets interested in cultural exchange or comparative language studies. The faculty members at Drew are not only exceptional poets, but they are also dedicated and gifted teachers. The faculty members are generous with their time and feedback, and the program's leadership helps create an environment that is deeply supportive, stimulating, and challenging. The mentorship model is at its best at Drew, and the residencies are packed with useful and memorable lectures, readings, workshops and informal gatherings
Advice to Prospective Students:
If you are hungry to be a better poet, Drew could be for you. The students are a passionate and serious bunch who work very hard to hone their craft. The campus is beautiful, but more importantly, the faculty is among the best you'll find. Students support one another very deeply considering how little time we spend together. Note that attending Drew requires lifestyle shifts to accommodate the 20-30 hours per week that the intensive reading, writing, and revising requires. It's worth it! I wouldn't want to study anywhere else.
