Program Description

For the past 35 years, our creative writing MFA program has offered serious aspiring writers an intensive and challenging apprenticeship in fiction or poetry. Our studio/academic approach pairs workshops and individual tutorials with a deep study of literature. In addition to ongoing work with a stellar faculty, students confer with distinguished visiting writers who spend a month in residence and provide fresh responses to their writing projects. The 48-hour program is usually completed in three years, concluding with a year focused on a thesis, a book-length manuscript of publication quality, and reading for a comprehensive exam based on an individualized list.
