Program Description

WestConn’s MFA in Creative and Professional Writing is the only program that trains students for careers as professional writers by educating them to be better poets, novelists, dramatists, essayists, and memoirists, but also by providing training in practical fields such as literary journalism, investigative reporting, grant writing, PR, and technical writing. While some of our graduates go into teaching, all of our graduates are equipped for careers as writers rather than merely for the adjunct teaching mill. With a flexible low-residency format and the option of part-time study, our program offers the opportunity to prepare for a lifelong career or simply to work on that book that burns inside you without disrupting the rest of your life. Our faculty is made up of versatile writers who have had successful creative careers and who also have worked as professional writers in areas such as journalism, technical communications, and business communications, including Daniel Asa Rose, Don J. Snyder, John Briggs, Brian Clements, Elizabeth Cohen, and Paola Corso. Graduate Assistantships are available for local students.
