Program Description

The University of Virginia MFA writing program is composed of approximately ten poets and fourteen fiction writers. All first year students receive a Hoyns or Poe/Faulkner fellowship in either poetry or fiction, as well as health insurance coverage. The fellowship covers tuition and fees with some left over for personal expenses. All second year students teach an undergraduate course, for which they receive health insurance, a tuition waiver, a small stipend, and and a salary of approximately $10,000 per year.
