Program Description

The film program at the University of New Orleans is located within the Department of Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts. Our goal is to train the complete, independent filmmaker, to give our students the best chance of success in the highly technical and competitive world of profession filmmaking.

Our masters program is an accredited, 60-hour MFA with approximately 30 graduate students. Students have a variety of opportunities for gaining practical production experience, from writing and producing their own films and crewing on our annual departmentally-sponsored Spring Film production, to internships on feature film productions shot at our Nims Center Studios professional production facility.

Ours is one of the most technologically advanced film programs in the country, with our own motion capture facility and state-of-the-art digital post-production editing and audio suites. Facilities also include a 5,000 sq. ft. sound stage, fully-equipped grip truck, Steadicam, 16mm film and HDDV camera packages, as well as an extensive inventory of professional audio, lighting and grip equipment.
