Program Description
Master of Fine Arts students may choose to concentrate on film production (cinematography, directing, editing), producing, or screenwriting. The M.F.A. in Motion Picture requires 42 credits of course work, six of which comprise the graduate project, usually a motion picture production or a screenplay.
The M.F.A. in Producing program offers a competitive edge for moving image professionals through a path of study dedicated to the business of producing motion pictures, independent features and other media.
The M.F.A. in Production prepares students with the necessary skills for success in the moving image profession. The M.F.A. in Production includes critical studies, professional development, and production techniques and skills. The production specialization allows students to concentrate in narrative film, documentary, animation, or experimental filmmaking using 16mm motion picture and digital formats.
The M.F.A. program in Screenwriting allows students to concentrate in narrative film, documentary, animation, or experimental visual storytelling, while equipping them with critical and analytical skills as well as professional development skills and techniques. Students in the program will have the opportunity to conceive and complete a major creative writing project such as a feature-length screenplay.
