Program Description

A newly established three-year residency MFA program offering tracks in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and playwriting. Students here may take classes in any genre. Up to 15 credit hours for working on the thesis. Financial Aid available through teaching assistantships and a limited number of fellowships. Students may take internships on Cottonwood, KU's literary review, and with the English Alternative Theater. Graduate students run their own reading series, offering one or two readings per month. Core faculty includes Ken Irby and Mike Johnson in poetry, Tom Lorenz and Laura Moriarty in fiction, G. Douglas Atkins in nonfiction. Visiting Writers Series that this featured Michael Chabon, Luis Alberto Urrea, and Salvador Plascencia. The program is part of a vibrant arts scene in Lawrence.
