Program Description

The University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program (NWP) is run by the English Department at the University of Iowa. It is a three year program that focuses on literary nonfiction. There are approximately 30-40 total students in the NWP program. Students must take 48 semester hours of coursework, must of which are workshops or reading intensive courses. Students may also take up to 16 credit hours of electives in any subject. In the third year of the program, students focus on completing their final thesis. Most students receive financial aid in the form of fellowships, scholarships, grants, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships.
