Program Description
The University of Michigan Law School has spent the last 150 years at the forefront in legal education. As part of one of the world’s great public research institutions, Michigan has never been restricted to the privileged, demonstrating a commitment to diversity since its inception: we were the second institution to confer a law degree on an African American in 1870, and we graduated the first woman law graduate to be admitted to the bar in 1871. Today, our distinguished and wide-ranging faculty includes many scholars recognized as preeminent in their fields, with particular expertise in constitutional, intellectual property, international, and criminal law, as well as interdisciplinary scholarship. Our collegial and outstanding student body also has the opportunity to experience exemplary professional-skills training; we offer one of the best legal practice courses in the nation and one of the most comprehensive clinical programs. With an employment rate of more than 99%, our graduates enjoy unsurpassed career opportunities in the private, non-profit, and public sectors, including academia and the judiciary, throughout the nation and abroad.
