Average Overall Rating

Program Description

Smith College offers a two-year MFA co-ed playwriting program that mixes advance level script-writing, directing, acting, design, dramatic literature, and elective courses with concentrated individual attention to the 2-3 students (on average) admitted each year. Applicants are expected to submit a full-length play and to have some form of professional theater experience beyond their undergraduate degree (whether they majored in theater or another discipline). Smith participates in the Five College Consortium with UMASS/ Amherst and Hampshire, Amherst, and Mt. Holyoke College. Candidates are prized for their adventurousness of purpose and approach, their evidence of structural exploration and expertise, and their range of theatrical paths pursued.
