Program Description
The School of Film is dedicated to providing an educational environment of creativity, diversity and excellence in which talented and motivated students can examine and develop the art and craft of the motion picture as an art form, educational tool and a dynamic cultural force in the 21st Century.
The M.F.A. in Filmmaking is a professional program for talented individuals seeking advanced training in directing, screenwriting, producing, cinematography, sound, and editing with a solid background in film history and theory. The M.F.A. is a terminal degree and is designed for students who wish to work as independent film artists, enter the film industry, or teach at the college or university level. The M.F.A. sequence moves from the required 1st year “boot camp,” a unified yearlong course of study designed to provide a solid foundation for the developing filmmaker, to growing levels of specialization in the 2nd year, and culminating in the thesis work of the 3rd year.
All students receive some form of financial aid comprised of a combination of tuition waivers and/or graduate stipends.
