Program Description
Georgia College & State University offers the MFA in Creative Writing. Students work in one primary thesis genre (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or scriptwriting) and at least one other genre. Most students follow a three year track, while students who hold an M.A. in English complete the degree in two years.
Most students receive graduate assistantships, with opportunities in our Writing Center, the Writers in the Schools program, Arts and Letters, and The Flannery O’Connor Review. Second-year students will be eligible for teaching fellowships, with opportunities to teach first-year composition and literature, as well as creative writing. Students with an M.A. are eligible for a teaching fellowship in their first year. GCSU participates in the Peace Corps Fellows/USA Program:
