Program Description
The Drew University Low-Residency MFA Program in Poetry & Poetry in Translation has been designed to offer something unique to student poets. In our small, but inclusive, all-poetry program, we are interested in the range of voices writing today, including the poetry of other languages as it is brought to us through translation. We aspire to be both intimate and global, and to learn together what it means to be a poet.
We alternate intense residencies in January and June, with mentorship semesters. During the mentorship semesters students work one-on-one with our award-winning faculty. The best teachers are those who are living a life of poetry; our excellent faculty members are such teachers. Our program offers three tracks: Poetry, Poetry in Translation, and a Combined MFA in Poetry & Poetry in Translation. Though some students actively pursue translation, all of our students are exposed to poets from other languages and cultures.
