Program Description
The MFA programs in the department of Writing, Consciousness and Creative Inquiry at CIIS explore the intersection between artist and society, craft and aesthetics, history and contemporary arts and literature, while valuing all forms of art and all human experience. Two years of full-time course work (48 units) is offered through six intensive weekends per semester, (limited) online conferences and meetings with faculty mentors. Each degree culminates in a substantial creative project.
The MFA in Writing and Consciousness welcomes writers who are ready to take their writing to a deeper level, develop their art and craft in a multi-genre, multi-discipline approach, enlarge their knowledge of literature and consciousness, and discover new forms and meanings. Writers may focus on fiction, non-fiction poetry, text-image, or mixed-genre work.
The MFA in Creative Inquiry, Interdisciplinary Arts welcomes working writers and artists from all disciplines who are ready to expand their professional options, reflect on their personal values and aesthetic choices, place their own work at the center of their artistic inquiry, and embrace diverse perspectives and multi-disciplinary approaches to art-making.
