Program Description

The American University MFA in Creative Writing provides a nurturing studio and academic environment for students of creative writing. Our curriculum aims to challenge writers to expand and sharpen their voices while being exposed to Washington, D.C.'s vibrant community of literary organizations and writers. Our core faculty includes poet David Keplinger, director of the program, poet Kyle Dargan, novelist and essayist Richard McCann, novelist Stephane Grant, short story writer and novelist Danielle Evans, novelist and memoirist Andrew Holleran, and journalist/essayist Rachel L. Snyder. With opportunities for internships at non-profits and journals throughout D.C.'s metro area, as well as required course work in criticism, translation, and literary journalism, American's growing program offers the community, the time to write, and the guidance students need. We strive to continue building a program that is inclusive and multicultural in its student population, pedagogy, and faculty.
