Program Description
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in creative writing at Adelphi University is a cross-genre program that offers a versatile, interdisciplinary approach to prose, poetry and dramatic writing.
Students refine their skills in small, single-genre workshops, literature courses, and with one-on-one mentoring from our distinguished faulty, who are widely published authors of fiction, poetry, plays, screenplays, television scripts, and essays. The university’s proximity to New York City offers extensive opportunities to participate in the City’s diverse cultural and artistic events.
In the program’s Professional Development Practicum, students are introduced to the professional and practical life of a writer in multiple disciplines. Students graduate from the MFA program with a novel, a set of shorts stores, a collection of poems, a play or screen play,--along with a robust and realistic awareness of what a “life in letters” entails.
